Like us, most foreigners come to Taipei to either teach English or study Chinese. When they arrive they find that the accommodation available is either out of their price range, unsatisfactory or just unsuitable to their needs.

In order to study, find a job, a permanent apartment, or just generally adjust to life in Taipei, they need a comfortable, well located place to call home for several weeks or more.

The backpacker hostels are affordable but conditions are far from homely. Aside from being cramped and often busy, the standard is well below what we would expect from a backpacker hostel in the west. Hotels on the other hand are costly and they don't provide the chance of meeting other travellers and sharing experiences.
